A "family reunion" for descendants and those interested in the very early history of New Paltz. Begins Friday night with a cocktail reception. Saturday is full of workshops, open houses, lunch, a "family" picnic and interesting evening activities. Wraps on Sunday morning with the option of a service in the reconstruction of the 1717 stone church or a hands-on archaeological dig.

Second Saturdays: Cultural Pluralism | 7:30pm
The Hudson Valley was culturally pluralistic in the eighteenth century with many cultures vying for identity at the same time. Native Americans, Dutch, English, French, Germans, Africans, West Indians, Scandinavians, Scots, Irish, Poles, Jews and more jockeyed for recognition of their own culture. Firth Fabend, an independent historian in New Netherland Studies, discusses the glue that held the diverse colony together.

Underground in the Archives: Diversity in Early New York | 1 to 3pm
What better way to get out of the heat then a behind the scenes visit to the Archives at Historic Huguenot Street. Director Eric Roth will select early documents and items that speak about cultural pluralism (diversity) in the New Netherlands and early New York. Limit 15.

Colonial Overnight | 6pm to 10am
Live like a colonial kid for just one night! Sleep on a straw mattress in a 300 year-old building. Prepare and cook a colonial era dinner over an open fire. Participants will also play colonial games, create colonial crafts and tour the houses at night, many of which are said to be haunted. The night will end with a camp-in on the floor of the DuBois Fort. Ages 7-12. Bring a sleeping bag, pajamas, and toothbrush. Food and Supplies provided. Advance Registration Required. Limit 15.

Third Saturday Art Walk: Poser and Portraits | 4 to 7 pm
Historic Huguenot Street joins the Dorsky Museum at SUNY and other galleries for The New Paltz Art Loop, a third Saturday art crawl through the village. Jessica Poser, an assistant professor at SUNY New Paltz, works in a variety of media from the ordinary (paints) to the uncommon (cardboard). Her work is based on HHS's textile collection and plaster work. An additional exhbit of Portraits taken from HHS's collection will be on view in the LeFevre House. |

HHS partners with Water Street Market and others in the Village on a day all about making our world a greener place. Content may focus on colonial-era practices that by their nature, were green, or on ways that we try to reduce our environmental impact here on the Street today.

Second Saturdays: "A New York Dutch Room for the New American Wing" | 7 to 9 pm
Peter M. Kenny, the Ruth Bigelow Wriston Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will give an insider's glimpse of the acquisition and installation of a quintessential New York Dutch room in the context of the most comprehensive collection of American historic interiors in any art museum in the country. The Museum's New York Dutch Room comes from an eighteenth-century house built by Daniel Peter Winne (1720-1800) on the famed Van Rensselaer Manor (present-day Bethlehem, outside of Albany).

Historic Huguenot Street sits at the heart of a vibrant village which contains many homes with noteable history and significant architectural style. This event offers a unique opportunity to see and enjoy the "cream of the crop." From 1 to 5pm, the proud owners of ten of these homes will open their doors. Kids ages 2 to 10 (and their families) are invited to join us for our Second Annual Haunted Scavenger Hunt. Hunters will receive a special scavenger Hunt. Hunters will receive a special scavenger hunt based on their age. Come in costume and receive a special prize. Every child who participates will go home with a price. Healthy treats and beverages will be served.

Second Saturdays: The Lenape: Lower New York's First Inhabitants | 7 to 9pm
In this lively and engaging talk, David M. Oestreicher combines archaeological and historical evidence with decades of firsthand ethnographic and linguistic research among present-day Lenape traditionalists, to arrive at a full picture of the Lenape from prehistory to the present. The presentation includes a slide program featuring native artifacts, maps, illustrations, and photographs, as well as images of contemporary Lenape who are among the last repositories of their culture. This lecture offers a unique opportunity to learn about lower New York's original inhabitants, the Lenape -- not the romanticized figures of popular mythology or new-age literature, but a living people as they really are. Dr.David M. Oestreicher is recognized as a leading authority on the Lenape (Delaware), our region's first inhabitants.

What a great way to do your holiday shopping. Downtown New Paltz, including Huguenot Street, will be open late to start the holiday shopping season. Stop in the museum shop, enjoy some homemade hot chocolate and find some unique items in the shop, including holiday decoration and cards. |

Come and have your picture taken with our vintage Santa Claus seated next to the period fireplace in the historic Jean Hasbrouck House. These are timeless photographs, of exceptional quality, taken by a professional photographer familiar with the interesting backdrops that our house interiors offer. Every photo will be inserted in a replicated card form the vintage holiday card collection we have here at HHS. For this event we will again partner with Rite Aid, a trusted local business and, at your request, send a .jpg oh your photograph so that they can create your holiday cards with convenience and ease. Imagine, pictures with the most authentic Santa in New Paltz and your holiday cards all wrapped up - and it isn't even December yet!!

Children will search through the grand Deyo House on Huguenot Street looking for Christmas themed clues (vintage cards, stockings, antique cookie cutters...). Exploring this stately colonial revival will be a delightful challenge as you discover the clues and solve the mystery of the hunt! Holiday treats and warm cider will be provided back at the DuBois Fort Visitor Center upon completion of the hunt. Please note this event is suitable for ages 5 and up.

We'll also learn about how Christmas came to be the holiday we know and love today - and the special role New York and the Hudson Valley played in making this tradition alive.
