News from the StreetWith the 2010 season upon us, Historic Huguenot Street is seeking candidates interested in the following positions: Education Coordinator • Historic Interpreters • Internships The Education Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating educational programs and assisting with their promotion. This includes educational and recreational programming, children’s and family programs, group tours and school tours. Helps nurture connections and collaboration with the surrounding community. The Education Coordinator is a key part of the Public Programs and Events Team and strives to ensure a consistent and dynamic guest-focused outlook. This is an hourly position of approximately 34 hours per week May through October and 22 hours per week for the remainder of the year. This position requires multiple evening and weekend hours, especially between May and October. The Education Coordinator reports to the Director of Visitor Services. Full job description Historic Interpreters are responsible for giving high-quality guided tours of the site and the museum houses. These individuals cultivate a welcoming atmosphere, answer guest questions, provide assistance, serve as interpreters of our National Historic Landmark District and educate guests about our site, our community and preservation. Also known as guides, these individuals play a key role, serving as the link between the museum and the public. Historic Interpreters may be cross-trained to work in our Museum Shop. Historic Interpreters report to the Director of Visitor Services. Full job description Internships @ Historic Huguenot Street Historic Huguenot Street is the perfect place for students to gain additional experience in an active, vibrant museum setting. Our small, credentialed staff have supervised internships for students from the State University of New York at New Paltz, Marist College, Mount Saint Mary College, Bard College, the College of St. Rose, New York University and other universities. We pride ourselves on offering a rewarding internship experience and on our flexibility. The internships listed below are all summer internships beginning in May. While we cannot offer a stipend, we do offer on-site housing and flexible scheduling. In some cases, there is a possibility of paid hourly work unrelated to an internship and/or after completion of an internship. In addition, we accept interns and student volunteers on a rolling basis throughout the year. The ideal candidate is a current undergraduate student eager to gain experience at a small but busy museum through a credit-bearing internship. Marketing and Communication Design Intern Work with the Director of Marketing and Community Relations and other staff to promote programs and events and to write, edit and design collaterals and educational materials. Ideal candidate is a marketing or design major seeking a credit-bearing summer internship. Facility with Adobe Creative Suite and with website design and editing desirable. Internship can be tailored to suit individual's major and career goals. Living History/Theatre Intern Perfect for a theatre major or an education major with a particular interest in the dramatic arts. Individual will work with staff and volunteers to develop living history vignettes based on primary source documents in our collections and/or about the founding families of New Paltz. Involves research, writing, costume selection. Vignettes will be used for stand-alone programs, children's programming and for events such as Night At The Museum and Haunted Huguenot Street. Research Intern Conduct research to be used for the development of programs and in publications. Using the resources available in the library and archives at Historic Huguenot Street as well as other sources, fully research and develop frameworks to be used as the basis for special talks and walking tours offered by Historic Huguenot.
