New Paltz is convenient to the New York City metro area, western New England and New York's Capital District.  We're just 90 minutes from Manhattan, and an easy drive from the five boroughs, northern New Jersey, western Connecticut and northeastern Pennsylvania.

Historic Huguenot Street is just steps from our fabulous and funky downtown, which features many locally-owned specialty shops and boutiques.  Water Street Market is a short walk down the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail.  A variety of dining options, from fine dining to ethnic food to more simple fare, can be found downtown.  Framing the village is the Shawangunk Ridge, which draws rock climbers from around the world.  Much of this is protected today by the Mohonk Preserve and the Minnewaska State Park. The State University of New York at New Paltz, the modern-day university which has its roots in the 19th century academy founded by Huguenot descendants, rounds out our village and gives New Paltz the optimism and youthful spirit of a vibrant college town.

New Paltz is also convenient to other Hudson Valley destinations, including Rhinebeck, Hyde Park, Woodstock, Bethel, Beacon and Hudson. For art lovers, Dia: Beacon and the Dorsky Museum are close by.  Mohonk Mountain House is just minutes away. A short drive across the Hudson River is the Culinary Institute of America, Vassar College, Marist College, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Home, the Vanderbilt Mansion and Bard College. The newly-opened Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and the Walkway Over the Hudson are right in our backyard.
